Sharper says he has been promoted from PUP list

Darren Sharper says he’s been cleared to play and will be promoted to the active 53-man roster by the New Orleans Saints.

Sharper, who has been on the physically unable to perform list as he recovers from microfracture knee surgery in the offseason, returned to practice on Wednesday. He told Mike Triplett of the New Orleans Times-Picayune via text message that he will be active for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns at the Superdome.

“I'm back and very excited to finally be able to do what I do best. Play football," Sharper said.

The Saints will have to clear a roster spot for Sharper. How much action the veteran, who was instrumental in the team’s march to the Super Bowl last season, will receive.
