Shawn Andrews trying to make his way back to NFL
Veteran offensive lineman Shawn Andrews, a former Pro Bowl performer, has been cleared to return to the football field and he’s going to work to get into shape before showcasing himself for NFL teams, according to CSNPhilly.com.
Andrews has undergone two back surgeries and has also been plagued by depression, but the hope is that the 27-year-old will be able to return to the league this season. Per his agent, he has no interest in joining the United Football League after being drafted by the Omaha Nighthawks last week.
“His plan is to be a productive football player in 2010 in the National Football League,” Rich Moran said, per the report.
The dream was for Andrews to play next to his brother Stacy Andrews with the Eagles, but that ended when Shawn was released following the season. Stacy had to take a considerable pay cut to remain with the team too.
“No doubt (he’s coming back),” Stacy told CSN Philly. “We talked about that. He said he’s feeling great.”
The sooner Shawn Andrews is in shape to get on the field for teams, the better his chances will be of carving out a roster spot this season. Quality linemen are always in need.
