Sidney Rice has hip surgery

At least Sidney Rice didn’t wait any longer.

The Minnesota Vikings wide receiver made a trip to the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo., and did have surgery on it there, Rice said in a text message to Chip Scoggins of the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

It is believed Rice will be sidelined for at least the first half of the season, leaving quarterback Brett Favre without his top target from last season. The Vikings have reportedly put the ball in motion to sign Javon Walker, but the Star Tribune reports that nothing can be confirmed at this point.

As we detailed earlier, Rice saw multiple specialists during the offseason, at least two of which recommended surgery. He was injured in the NFC Championship Game and had he elected to have surgery in the spring, he’d be healed at this point. Now, Minnesota will be in a bind as the Vikings begin their season in 16 days. Rice is angling for a longterm contract extension from the Vikings. Playing only half of a season is no way to cash in.
