Singletary: 'It would be great' if Crabtree signs soon
With indications that there could finally be some movement on the Michael Crabtree front—the wide receiver and agent Eugene Parker will reportedly be in San Francisco starting Tuesday—the 49ers could be close to getting some help for an offense that has looked decent in the club’s 3-1 start that has included victories over all three NFC West foes.
“Same answer,’’ San Francisco coach Mike Singletary said Monday afternoon. “Same answer. I am going to say it again Any guy that can play and that can help us win, I am never going to say no, we don’t need him.”
The timing is curious now because it would appear Crabtree has lost significant leverage. The 49ers are winning. Singletary was asked if Crabtree is perhaps a diva.
“You said the key word: perhaps,’’ he responded. “I don’t know that. I don’t know that for sure. Why say no to someone who may be one heck of a kid? Like I said, I met him, I talked to him and I had a good feel for him. I haven’t been wrong too often. I think he is a great kid. But this is your rookie year, you’re just coming into the NFL, all you know is what they are telling him.
“I just hope he is right. It would be great (if he signs soon).”
