Source: April could land in Washington
While Mike Shanahan goes about the process of putting the old gang back together in Washington, inevitably the process will lead to some new coaches being hired as well.
The group could use some fresh ideas and new input, and one league insider said this morning that he expects special teams coach Bobby April to land with the Redskins. April consistently had some of the best special teams units in the league when he was in Buffalo, and he was able to opt out of his contract with the Bills.
“The money there in Washington is so much,” the source said. “That’s where he is going to end up, at least that’s what I think.”
Washington has been average to below average on special teams in recent years under Danny Smith. Redskins owner Daniel Snyder is known for paying the most for the some of the best coaches in the league, and April fits that profile. Two teams just created vacancies for special teams coaches as Pittsburgh and San Francisco fired their special teams coaches.
