Source: Bears cutting punter Drew Butler today
The Chicago Bears are releasing punter Drew Butler today, according to a league source.
Butler was signed by the Bears to a reserve-future deal in December.
He played at the University of Georgia where he was a a consensus All-American, an All-Southeastern Conference selection and a Ray Guy Award winner.
The Pittsburgh Steelers signed him as an undrafted free agent following the 2012 NFL draft.
He averaged 43.8 yards as a rookie. He was cut last year by the Steelers when they signed Zoltan Mesko after beating out Brian Moorman during the preseason.
Butler is the son of former Bears kicker Kevin Butler.
