Source: Bills awarded IK Enemkpali off waivers after he broke Geno Smith's jaw

The Buffalo Bills were awarded former New York Jets linebacker IK Enemkpali off waivers after the Jets promptly cut him after he broke Jets quarterback Geno Smith's jaw with a punch. Enemkpali knocked Smith out for six to 10 weeks. He'll undergo surgery. Bills coach Rex Ryan was the Jets' head coach when the team drafted Enemkpali in the sixth round last year. Criminal charges could be coming from this one. Smith took a $600 plane ticket to come to Enemkpali's football camp in Texas. Then, Smith didn't show up and Smith refused to refund the money for the ticket. Smith wouldn't pay back his teammate. "I apologize to the Jets organization, coaches, teammates and fans," Enemkpali said in a statement. "Geno and I let our frustration get the best of us, but I should have just walked away from the situation. I deeply regret and apologize for my actions. It was never my intention to harm anyone. I appreciate the opportunity I had with the Jets." Follow me on Twitter: @AaronWilson_NFL Aaron Wilson covers the Texans for The Houston Chronicle.
