Source: Brandon Flowers visiting Chargers today
Former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Brandon Flowers is visiting the San Diego Chargers today, according to a league source.
Flowers has already been contacted by the Minnesota Vikings, Baltimore Ravens, Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions since being released by the Chiefs last week.
The New England Patriots are also "in the mix," according to a source.
What team Flowers picks will hinge largely on scheme fit as well as financial compensation.
Flowers started 87 of the 88 games he appeared in for the Chiefs over the past six seasons and was named to the Pro Bowl last season. The former second-round draft pick recorded 421 tackles, 17 interceptions, two sacks and four forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries during that span.
Flowers struggled covering receivers out of the slot last year.
“We appreciate Brandon’s contributions to the team over the last six seasons,” Chiefs general manager John Dorsey said in a statement on Friday. “It’s in the best interest of the club and the player to part ways at this time. We wish him nothing but the best as he continues his career.”
