Source: Browns hire Hue Jackson as new head coach

Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson is the new Cleveland Browns head coach, according to a league source. A former Oakland Raiders head coach who went 8-8 in his only season as head coach before being fired, Jackson has collaborated adeptly with Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton. A former offensive coordinator at USC and Cal and with the Atlanta Falcons, Washington, Raiders and Bengals, Jackson is known for his creative play-calling and his rapport with his players. Jackson is expected to get interviews during the annual hiring cycle after the season. "Well, I tried to convince a few people of that last year; that he is excellent," Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said of Jackson. "I have been through this before with (Minnesota Vikings coach and former Bengals defensive coordinator) Mike Zimmer and people didn’t listen the first couple times around. You know, they call me and ask for recommendations, what are my thoughts, tell me their strengths, and answering questions. "I can’t be anything more than be honest on how I feel about these people and Hue is headed in that same direction right now. He has had the experience of being a head coach, he understands it. He is doing a fine job, which is most important, what he is doing right now, because that’s the most important thing, that is what you can control.” aaron.wilson@chron.com twitter.com/AaronWilson_NFL
