Source: Jaguars releasing Mohamad Massaquoi today

The Jacksonville Jaguars are releasing veteran wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi today, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation.

Massaquoi is a former Cleveland Browns second-round draft pick who played at the University of Georgia.

His release comes as a surprise given that he was signed to a two-year contract in April.

For his career, Massaquoi has caught 118 passes for 1,745 yards and seven touchdowns.

Last year, Massaquoi caught 17 passes for 254 yards and no touchdowns.

Massaquoi had 158 catches at Georgia for 2,282 yards and 16 touchdowns, which ranks fourth best in school history.

The Jaguars later announced the move and cut offensive lineman Jason Spitz, who has started 45 career games.
