Source: Marcus Gilchrist to Jets on four-year deal

Former San Diego Chargers safety Marcus Gilchrist has joined the New York Jets on a four-year contract, according to a league source.

Gilchrist is a starting safety who also plays nickel and some slot cornerback and plays nearly every snap.

The 26-year-old finished second on the team in tackles behind All-Pro free safety Eric Weddle last season. He had 76 tackles, one interception, one sack and two forced fumbles last season. Gilchrist is an athletic 5-foot-10, 198-pounder from Clemson who was drafted in the second round. Gilchrist was a better fit at safety than slot cornerback.
Gilchrist heads to the Jets after his four-year, $3.96 million rookie contract expired.
