Source: Rugby star Jarryd Hayne visited Lions today

Astralian rugby star Jarryd Hayne visited the Detroit Lions today after previous meetings with the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers, according to an NFL source.

Hayne has been training in Southern California preparing and is rumored to have upcoming workouts with NFL teams, according to media reports out of Austraila.

Hayne was granted his release from his National Rugby League team in October to pursue an NFL career.

Hayne is an athletic 6-foot-2, 225-pounder who would likely operate as a running back in the NFL. He could also contribute on special teams.

The 26-year-old wrote a letter in October that he's been contemplating an NFL career for the past few years.

"For the past 24 months I've been thinking about having a crack in the NFL, and over the last 12 months I've been seriously considering it," Hayne wrote. "Today I can officially announce that I will be heading to the United States to pursue an opportunity to play American Football. I believe I have the speed, I'm a quick learner, I feel things out really quickly.

"I have no doubt it's going to be tough. Ultimately it's a 12-month plan, going over there and trying to make a train-on team. For me to do that, I need to start preparing for that around January or February."
