Source: Shawne Merriman shows up at Chargers' facility

The San Diego Chargers have been waiting on some players who have been holding out this summer.

One of them just arrived.

A league source said that linebacker Shawne Merriman arrived at the team’s facility within the last hour. Whether he intends to sign his one-year tender and end his holdout is not known at this point.

Merriman has a tender for $3.2 million this season, and like a lot of other players, he’s angling for much, much more. He said his holdout was about respect and security. Translated, yes, that means money. Lots of it.

Merriman missed 15 games in 2008 with a knee injury. He hasn’t returned to the Pro Bowl level he was at from 2005 to 2007, but the team is hopeful he will be an impact player this season. After missing more than two weeks of camp, perhaps he’s ready to get going.
