Sources: Auburn WR Sammy Coates to visit 49ers, Steelers, has visited Dolphins
Auburn standout wide receiver Sammy Coates has visited the Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns and will visit the San Francisco 49ers and Pittsburgh Steelers next week, according to sources.
At the NFL scouting combine, Coates ran the 40-yard dash in 4.43 seconds and bench pressed 225 pounds 23 times with a 41-inch vertical leap.
New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick and director of player personnel Nick Caserio attended the Auburn Pro Day workout to check out Coates.
Coates caught 82 passes for 1,757 yards and 13 touchdowns at Auburn. Coates averaged 21.4 yards per catch for his career.
Coates is a big, fast wide receiver at 6-foot-2, 213 pounds who played in the Senior Bowl.
Coates caught 34 passes for 741 yards and four touchdowns last season, including five catches for 206 yards and two scores in an Iron Bowl loss to Alabama. As a sophomore, Coates had 42 catches for 902 yards and seven touchdowns.
Coates was one of just three fourth-year juniors at the Senior Bowl.
"Sammie has the size and speed to project well to the next level, as evidenced by his performance in the Iron Bowl," said Senior Bowl executive director Phil Savage, a former Baltimore Ravens executive and Cleveland Browns general manager.
Coates was a second-team All-Southeastern Conference selection last season.
