Stanford DL Josh Mauro visited Giants, worked out for Cowboys, Raiders, Falcons

Stanford defensive lineman Josh Mauro visited the New York Giants and had private workouts for the Dallas Cowboys, Oakland Raiders and the Atlanta Falcons, according to league sources.

Mauro also had a formal interview with the Philadelphia Eagls at the NFL scouting combine.

Mauro is known for his versatility having lined up at five-technique primarily and also playing three-technique and nose guard on passing downs, drawing comparisons to Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel from NFL scouts. Mauro is 6-foot-6, 290 pounds and is known for a quick first step. NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock called Mauro "a bulldog."

Last season, Mauro had 51 tackles, 12.5 for losses, four sacks, six quarterback hits, two forced fumbles and one interception.

He has bench pressed 225 pounds 29 times with a 9-8 broad jump and a 32-inch vertical leap with a 4.50 20-yard shuttle and a 7.43 three-cone drill.

Mauro played in the East-West Shrine all-star game and was a 2013 All-Pac-12 honorable-mention selection.

“Josh Mauro has the size, strength, agility and technical skill that NFL defensive line coaches are looking for," Stanford coach David Shaw said. "He is relentless, physical and as tough as they come."

Added Stanford defensive line coach Randy Hart: "Josh Mauro possesses the tools to be a complete defensive lineman in the NFL. He is experienced as a “knockback” run stopper and as an effective edge pass rusher. He is an unselfish team player who is an intelligent and competitive coach pleaser on the field and in the meeting room.”

“Josh is a physical, tremendously athletic defensive lineman whose motor runs nonstop," said Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason, the former Stanford defensive coordinator. "He loves the game and exhibits a high football IQ, which translates to playmaking ability. He was a huge part of our  success in playing in four consecutive BCS Bowl games."
