Steve Smith donates $100,000 to Colorado shooting victims
Steve Smith has done a lot of stuff away from the football field that’s gotten publicity during his career, not all positive.
So, his most recent move should not go unnoticed. The Carolina Panthers wide receiver is giving $100,000 to support survivors of the mass movie-theater shooting in Colorado in an effort to help defray medical expenses.
According to Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer, Smith has no connection to anyone involved in the tragedy that left 12 dead and 58 wounded.
“As a father and husband I cannot imagine the pain and suffering the victims are going through,” Smith said in a statement. “My family’s hearts and prayers are extended to theirs, and I hope this contribution might assist in paying some of the medical bills that will help allow these families to move forward in this tragic circumstance.”</p>
Smith’s money will be directed to the city of Aurora, Colo., which will handle getting the money to those in need. He should be commended for this gesture.
