Tannehill, Ryan have strong starts in preseason game

The Miami Dolphins and Atlanta Falcons received perfection out of their starting quarterbacks in Friday night's preseason game.

Atlanta's Matt Ryan completed 7-of-7 passes for 53 yards and Miami's Ryan Tannehill went 6-of-6 with a touchdown in the Falcons' 16-10 win. Both quarterabacks are looking for more consistency in 2014 and got their preseasons off to a nice start.

Tannehill's touchdown was a quick crossing route to Brandon Gibson for a 6-yard score.

For the Dolphins, the first-team looked comfortable in Bill Lazor's offense, which is expected to mimic what the Eagles do. Lazor, the Dolphins' offensive coordinator, was the quarterbacks coach in Philadelphia a season ago.

The Falcons looked strong running the ball, in addition to Ryan's strong showing. Rookie running back Devonta Freeman carried the ball 10 times for 50 yards, with Jacquizz Rodgers totaling 20 yards and a touchdown on seven carries. Antone Smith had a long touchdown called back due to a holding penalty on rookie right tackle Jake Matthews.
