TE Thomas signs his RFA tender with Saints

Tight end David Thomas has signed his tender with the New Orleans Saints as a restricted free agent, the club announced this morning.

The Saints traded to acquire Thomas from the New England Patriots last year and he enjoyed a strong season, especially with Jeremy Shockey missing some time, catching 35 passes for 356 yards and a touchdown. He made eight starts.

“David came to our team last season and proved invaluable, both as a receiver from the tight end spot and also with his versatility and ability to fill in at fullback when we needed him to do that,” general manager Mickey Loomis said. “He’s a very talented young player, and we look forward to more highly productive seasons to come from him.”

Loomis also announced that the Saints had defensive end Jimmy Wilkerson in for a free-agent visit a week after the team signed veteran Alex Brown to play left end.
