Tennessee Safety Eric Berry
Eric Berry: No. 14, SS, 5-11, 203
Berry is a thickly built athlete who's smooth in his drop and does a great job getting out of his breaks in the center field role and closing on the ball. He exhibits the burst and range to make plays sideline to sideline, but it's his instincts that are the real difference maker. He does a phenomenal job reading his run/pass keys quickly and is always flowing toward the play. He consistently is the first man breaking on the ball and always is a half step ahead of any other defender. Berry possesses great body control as he locates the ball and has the natural coordination to consistently time up the play correctly and disrupt plays on contact. He takes great angles toward the ball in the run game and displays the awareness to keep himself clean and avoid blocks in space. He rarely misses tackles in space but has a tendency to overrun plays when attacking the line of scrimmage and will struggle to break down. He gets up to speed quickly in pursuit and generates a lot of power from his lower half when wrapping up on contact. Berry exhibits good ball skills and has a nose for creating turnovers in all areas of the game. Not only does he have a great physical skill set, but his instincts, awareness and ball skills make him an elite safety prospect.
Grade: 7.5
