Terrell Owens saying all the right things in Seattle

At the tail end of his career, Jerry Rice played 11 games for the Seattle Seahawks in 2004, catching 25 passes, including three touchdowns.

Rice was 42 at the time.

The hope in Seattle now is that 38-year-old Terrell Owens can have a greater impact after he signed a one-year contract that week. Owens practiced with the Seahawks for the first time on Wednesday and was quite the attraction in Renton, Wash.

A little rusty," Owens said at a crowded media conference, according to Danny O’Neil of the Seattle Times. “But just glad to be out here. Grateful for the opportunity the Seahawks have given me.”

Owens is not wearing his traditional No. 81 because it has been issued. He’s No. 10. He said all the right things, something he does regularly even though his outlandish moments are the ones etched in the minds of most people.

“It's all about, for me, now, being a part of something rather than being the center of something," Owens said. "And I understand. Obviously, a lot of the media is here because of me, and again, I've changed in a lot of ways in a lot of things that have occurred in the last two years.”

Now, he has to go out and prove it. The NFL’s all-time leading receiver in yardage was on fumes when he got to Seattle. Maybe the man right behind him on the list, Owens, can prove he has plenty left for at least one season.
