Texans let go of Mason

The celebration for Derrick Mason in Houston as AFC South champion was short-lived as Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times reported Tuesday that the Texans have released the veteran wide receiver.

The Texans acquired Mason from the New York Jets, who had signed him once the lockout was lifted. Mason has 19 receptions this season, but has just six in seven games since coming to Houston.

Mason, originally a fourth-round pick of Tennessee in 1997, will have to go through the waiver process before he can become a free agent. He has 943 career receptions and 12,061 yards receiving in his career.
