The interview Daniel Snyder didn't give Sirius NFL Radio

There seems to be considerable confusion this morning over an interview Daniel Snyder never did.

Sports Illustrated’s Peter King wrote in his Monday Morning Quarterback column this morning that Snyder, appearing on Sirius NFL Radio over the weekend, said the Washington Redskins had a deal in place to trade the 16th overall pick in last month’s draft to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The upshot of the story was the Steelers were looking to move up in the draft and snag Florida guard/center Mike Pouncey. Such a move would have reunited him with his brother Maurkice on the Steelers’ line and made for a fabulous story. But Pouncey was drafted 15th overall by the Miami Dolphins and the trade never happened.

The Washington Post reports the interview never happened, either.

“Both Sirius and the Redskins told me that Snyder did not appear on any Sirius radio programs over the weekend, or at any other recent time,” reports Dan Steinberg of the Post. “In fact, Snyder has not done any radio interviews since Super Bowl week. Also, the Steelers never called the Redskins about any trade, according to a Redskins spokesman.”

King has since retracted the story and said Redskins general manager Bruce Allen told him the Steelers never called about the pick.

Where did the story originate? A little Internet search shows that Jim Wexell, who covers the Steelers for, tweeted about a Snyder interview on Saturday.

“Dan Snyder said on Sirius Radio this week that the Redskins and Steelers had a draft day deal in place, but "the player was gone" at pick 16,” Wexell tweeted.

UPDATE: Wexell has since deleted the tweet, but it was there earlier this morning.

Where Wexell got his information? We’re not certain. Apparently, it didn’t come from Sirius of Snyder. And this is one that can't be pinned on Snyder.
