Thomas Davis says he's not retiring after 3rd ACL replacement

Thomas Davis is undergoing surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee today for the third time.

But the Carolina Panthers linebacker is adamant that he’s not going to walk away from the game after this surgery.

“And for those of you who have asked, NO way am I going to retire,” Davis wrote on his Twitter account, according to Steve Reed of the Gaston Gazette.

Davis has been hit with some particularly rough luck. He received a $36.5 million contract extension in July, but the club built in protection as his guarantee was an $8 million signing bonus. As Reed indicates, Davis will have missed 38 of the club’s last 40 games after this season, and it’s difficult to imagine him returning without a re-worked contract.

Hopefully, the ACL gets properly taken care of and he has a smooth rehabilitation.
