Tim Hightower tops RB depth chart in Arizona
Beanie Wells might be a popular pick among fantasy football players this year, especially with Kurt Warner gone and the controls being turned over the Matt Leinart.
Surely, the Arizona Cardinals will be more committed to the running game, right? After all, coach Ken Whisenhunt came to the desert from Pittsburgh where he was comfortable handing the ball off to Jerome Bettis time after time after time.
But Tim Hightower remains atop the depth chart for the Cardinals, keeping Wells, the former first-round pick, at a short distance. It’s not that Wells is not going to play or cannot earn the job, but he’s not where he needs to be at this point. It’s the trust factor at play.
“Tim is versatile, he's tough, and he runs well with the ball," Whisenhunt told Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic. “And we have a lot more information about Tim in different situations than we do with Beanie.
“The way we've set things up with our team, Beanie's got to earn that. Beanie's working hard to try to do that. That's what you want.”
We figure Wells is still a good bet to lead the team in rushing. It just takes time, and nothing is handed out.
