Titans officially tag Griffin
Updating previous reports, the Tennessee Titans officially placed the $6.2 million franchise tender on free safety Michael Griffin on Monday, according to TitanInsider.com.
Griffin is nearly doubling the $3.3 million he made in base salary in the final year of the rookie contract he signed as a first-round pick in 2007.
The franchising of Griffin means that Cortland Finnegan is likely going to test the free agent market. Franchising Finnegan would have cost Tennessee $10.6 million, and the Titans could use the money saved by not bringing back Finnegan to go after a pass rusher in free agency.
