Titans release tight end Graham

The Tennessee Titans brought Daniel Graham in on a three-year contract to be the second tight end for a team that was primarily built to run the football utilizing Chris Johnson.

But on Tuesday, the Titans released Graham, absorbing the final two years of his contract ($1.333 million in dead money) in part because of a shift in offensive philosophy. As the Titans became more reliant on the passing game, in part because of Johnson and the running game's struggles, Graham's playing time dwindled last year, according to TitanInsider.com.

"He didn't get the reps that we thought he'd be able to get originally. We thought we'd run the ball a lot more than we did last year, and he didn't get an opportunity to play like we hoped he would when we signed him," Titans coach Mike Munchak said. "This year, we drafted Taylor (Thompson), and it's going to be hard for everyone to get reps. We got to that point where we felt like it was going to be in the best interest of Daniel and the best interest of the team to move on."

Graham, 33, still wants to play, his agent Tom Mills said, and he hopes to find a new team closer to training camps opening.
