Titans sign WR Donnie Avery

The Tennessee Titans signed former St. Louis Rams receiver Donnie Avery to a contract on Wednesday.

TitanInsider.com first reported that the club was in negotiations with Avery on Wednesday after his workout for the team.

The other finalist was former New York Jets and Carolina Panthers receiver David Clowney, who was one of five receivers to work out for Tennessee on Tuesday.

Avery was the first receiver chosen in the 2008 draft, taken with the 33rd pick - the first choice in the second round and caught 100 passes in two seasons before suffering a torn ACL in his right knee in the 2010 preseason.

Avery sat out all of last year and came back to the Rams this year, but was cut after preseason.

He worked out for the Carolina Panthers on Tuesday and came to Nashville following that tryout.
