Titans stick with Verner as starting cornerback

Alterraun Verner has been a valuable player for the Tennessee Titans for his four years with the club.

The past two seasons, Verner has been challenged by Tommie Campbell for his starting role, but this year, just like last season, Verner has emerged as the starter in week one, per TitanInsider.

“I just think overall we weighed everything. We had a plan. We explained the plan to both of them going into the OTAs,” Coach Mike Munchak said. “After watching the body of work from practice to OTAs and games, we just felt Vern (Alterraun Vener) was the right amount of most consistent. We’ll start with him obviously starting but obviously Tommie (Campbell) will still be part of what we’re doing on defense, still be part of special teams. He’ll still play a big role, but just to start the game out, it’ll be Vern.”

Verner said wants to work to keep improving, even after winning the starting role again.

“Competition is always good because it makes you a better player because you have to be able to respond and you have to be able to work on thing to get better,” Verner said. “If you're not working and getting better, then the person behind you is. Tommie did a good job and he is a hell of a player. … At the end of the day, I know what I still need to do to get better. I've still got a lot to improve on as a player.”
