Titans work out Portis, but unlikely to sign him
Veteran running back Clinton Portis was impressive in his workout for the Tennessee Titans, and Jason LaCanfora of NFL Network tweeted that the team could sign him in the next week or so.
However, don't count on that turn of events happening, says TitanInsider.com. Despite low productivity from Chris Johnson thus far in the running game, the Titans are more than happy with their stable of running backs. Coach Mike Munchak confirmed on his weekly radio show that the backs brought in Tuesday were to update the team's emergency list.
Tennessee just paid Johnson $30 million guaranteed, and also looking for more ways to get backup Javon Ringer involved in the running game. The Titans are also very pleased with fourth-round rookie Jamie Harper, who led the team in rushing in preseason.
Portis' only in in Tennessee would be for the one of the running backs already on the roster to suffer a severe injury. So for now it is probably small consolation for Portis that he is atop the Titans' waitlist.
The Titans also worked out four other running backs - Aaron Brown of Texas Christian, Javarris Williams of Tennessee State, Aaron Brown of Texas Christian and Lonyae Miller of Fresno State and Chase Reynolds of Montana.
