Toe problem pops up again for Jimmy Clausen

There is no indication that Jimmy Clausen is again suffering from a serious toe injury, but the Carolina Panthers quarterback is sidelined none the less.

Clausen was held out of practice on Monday, according to Darin Gantt of the Charlotte Observer, and coach John Fox said the toe was the issue.

Of course, Clausen was hobbled by a toe injury at Notre Dame last season and underwent surgery just after the year ended. That is why he wasn’t able to work out for clubs at the scouting combine.

Clausen hasn’t performed well in preseason action, but he doesn’t need another setback. The situation is at least worth monitoring.
