Trent Cole has elbow surgery
The Philadelphia Eagles announced that defensive end Trent Cole, the team’s top pass rusher, underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow Monday.
The surgery was performend by Dr. Michael Ciccotti of the Rothman Institute at the Thomas Jefferson Surgical Center. The procedure was described as a debridement, meaning they cleaned his elbow out.
Cole finished the season with 10 sacks but had only three over the final eight games making you wonder if the elbow was an issue for him as the season went along. He has 52 sacks over the previous five seasons.
Fellow defensive end Brandon Graham is healing from surgery to repair a torn ACL. He was injured in Week 14, making his availability for the start of the 2011 season a question. The Eagles drafted Graham in the first round in 2010 hoping he would spark the pass rush. Philadelphia signed Phillip Hunt last week. He was the CFL’s top pass rusher last season for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
