Turf toe a terrible time for Jahvid Best
Turf toe injuries in both feet have finally slowed Detroit Lions rookie running back Jahvid Best.
The explosive performer from Cal played a limited role in Sunday’s loss at Dallas as he deals with injuries that are only going to improve with rest. He had just two yards rushing and 15 yards receiving.
Best sprained his left toe in the season opener at Chicago when the Lions also lost quarterback Matthew Stafford for the first time. Two weeks later, he sprained the right toe in a loss to the Minnesota Vikings. According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, Best said the injuries “take turns” hindering him.
"Some days I feel good and some days I just have bad days," Best said. "In the pregame warm-ups I was feeling pretty good, but it just ended up not being so good."
Maurice Morris got the bulk of the work at running back and he produced 71 yards in rushing and receiving. Kevin Smith wasn’t an option as he’s once again on injured reserve, this time with a thumb injury that required surgery. The Lions are 31st in the NFL in rushing.
