Turner the Burner looks sharp in minicamp
At first sight, they thought Michael Turner had lost weight when he appeared this weekend at the minicamp for the Atlanta Falcons.
No so, says the veteran running back. He’s just reapportioned some of the 244 pounds on his 5-10 frame. The hope is it will be the first step toward a big season for the 28-year-old, who broke out in 2008 with the Falcons before an ankle injury tripped him up a year ago.
Turner was a powerful back in his first season with the club, getting 376 carries, and there was some thought that the big workload would lead to a less productive season. But he was actually putting up bigger numbers last season (he finished with 4.9 yards per carry, 0.4 ahead of 2008) before being injured.
"I’m still the same, it just looks different," Turner told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "I just moved it around a little bit to all the right places a little bit.
"I’ve been here doing a little extra cardio. I changed my eating habits a little bit. I’ve just really been staying on top of it this offseason because that’s when you tend to eat more junk food and things like that. I’m just trying to get in the habit of eating healthy and get that conditioning part out of the way so I don’t have to worry about it later on."
