UNLV OT Matt Murphy lines up three private workouts
UNLV offensive tackle Matt Murphy completed his pro day Thursday and is generating some buzz now that we’re within five weeks of the NFL draft.
Murphy has three private workouts scheduled in the next week. He made 45 consecutive starts for the Rebels at left tackle and was a team captain. Most believe the 6-4, 304-pounder projects as a guard at the next level. Teams could also consider him at right tackle and he might even be projected as a center.
Murphy, an honorable mention All-Mountain West Conference selection, put up 25 reps on the bench press at 225 pounds. His broad jump was 9-4, and he did the three-cone drill in 7.5 seconds. Because Murphy was not invited to the Scouting Combine, teams doing more homework on him might want to bring him in for a private visit to get a complete medical report. With the impressive streak of starts, he obviously didn’t suffer any serious injuries though, and could be a late-round selection.
Only scouts from the Kansas City Chiefs, New York Giants and San Diego Chargers were on hand, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. But the Rebels went up against more high-profile pro days at Boise State and San Diego State.
