Urlacher responds to Dhani Jones

Dhani Jones explained he didn’t include Brian Urlacher in his list of the top 10 linebackers in the game because he hadn’t seen the Chicago Bear get off a block in a long time.

Urlacher has responded.

Appearing on WMVP-AM 1000 in Chicago on “The Waddle & Silvy Show,” Urlacher said essentially what was written here the other day, that Jones is more well known for his bow ties than anything else these days.

I think we were drafted in the same (2000) class, right?” Urlacher said. “I haven't heard anything about him since then. I saw him on a TV show with a bow tie on, though. So I know him better for the way he dresses than what he does on the football field. Look, guys are going to talk. I've definitely had a lot worse things said about me publicly from guys, so I can live with it.”

Then, Urlacher switched gears to slam the Soldier Field playing surface, which consistently ranks among the worst in the league whenever the players are polled. Some have suggested moving to an infill surface but it’s a grass field that is basically dead grass by late November. Well, dead grass and painted dirt.

“A disaster,” Urlacher said. “We complain about it all the time. I don't know what's wrong with our field. Every week they've resodded it. They had a soccer game there, or they had nine high school games in two days. It's always something.

“We're a fast defense. You put us on that FieldTurf eight home games a year? We're going to be really fast. You put (Julius) Peppers on turf? (Devin) Hester, with those cuts on turf? (Johnny) Knox? All those guys. Matt (Forte)? We're going to be a little better, I think. Faster."
