Utah safety Johnson has four visits lined up
Utah free safety Robert Johnson will have a pre-draft visit with the Chicago Bears on Tuesday and that is not the only stop he’s making in the course of this week and next.
Johnson, who was a first team All-Mountain West Conference selection this past season, also has visits scheduled with Houston, Miami and Seattle, according to an NFL source. Johnson was snubbed by the scouting combine and in February and after a strong pro day, he’s making the rounds. The teams will want to get a physical on Johnson, one of the principal elements of the combine. The visits will also give clubs a chance to get to know him better.
At 6-2, 203 pounds, he has good range and made six interceptions this past season. He scored two touchdowns and came up big against top programs, getting two interceptions in a Sugar Bowl meeting with Alabama when he was a junior.
Johnson ran the 40-yard dash in 4.60 seconds at his pro day. He projects right now as a mid- to late-round selection. He moves well and takes good angles. He’s not a great open-field tackler but finding the safety that can do it all is a tough proposition for teams. Johnson is getting more interest at the right time and figures to get a shot somewhere.
