Hall of Fame running back Steve Van Buren has filed suit against Panini America Inc., the owner of Donruss trading cards, for using strips of stolen canceled checks that contain his signature and unauthorized use of his name in the production of football cards.

The lawsuit was filed last Friday, according to the Philadelphia Daily News, and it claims that Donruss created trading cards in 2007 and 2009 that contained Van Buren’s name, likeness and signature. The insert cards, as they are known, that include his signature are also targeted in the lawsuit because his signature is on canceled checks that Van Buren alleges have been stolen from him. Worse, his bank routing number is visible on the cards.

Per the report, the cards were produced and sold "without Van Buren's authorization or knowledge.” No amount of damages was specified.
