Vernon Davis noncommittal on minicamp attendance
It's unclear if San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis will attend a mandatory minicamp, at least based on what Davis told ESPN.
Davis, who's skipping offseason workouts and wants a new contract, could be fined under the NFL collective bargaining agreement if he doesn't go to the 49er June 17-June 19 minicamp.
"If it's mandatory, I think I should be there," Davis said. "My foot could get stuck in the grass, and I may not be able to get out. But if it's mandatory, I think I should be there."
Davis is signed to a six-year, $42.7 million contract. The 30-year-old wants a new deal with two years remaining on his contract.
"I bleed red and gold. I'm all about the 49ers. I love the 49ers," said on ESPN's "SportsCenter" earlier Thursday. "My dream is to retire as a San Francisco 49er. OTAs aren't mandatory, so I don't have to be there technically. I just decided not to go. I decided not to be there .
"Everyone was just assuming I wanted a new contract. I just take it one day at a time. If they offer me a new contract, I'll gladly take it. I'll accept it."
