Veteran agent Jim Steiner retires from business

Longtime successful NFL agent Jim Steiner has retired from the business.

After a 35-year run representing some of the biggest names in the game, Steiner quietly walked away after the end of the 2011 season, according to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Steiner had an A-list of clients during his run in the industry, representing at times Jerry Rice, Roger Craig, William "Refrigerator" Perry, Mike Alstott, Jon Runyan, Randall Cunningham and Dan Hampton, among others.

So, while the NFL Scouting Combine gets ready to crank up next week in Indianapolis, Steiner won’t have to worry about the challenges that brings agents and their clients.

“When you're finished and you look back and you reflect, I had an incredible run," Steiner said. "You meet a lot of different people. You've got associations with the athletes, with the owners, the general managers _ people on the inside.

"It's just been a very exciting and stimulating profession. It's lots of fun compared to most professions. You're on and off the field. You're at Super Bowls. You're at playoff games. If you like action, the sports business will provide it.

"I'm just going to stay here (in St. Louis) and see what the next adventure will be," he said.
