Victor Cruz signing RFA tender with Giants
As Victor Cruz holds out hope he can land a long-term contract from the New York Giants, he isn’t going to give the club an opportunity to slash his pay.
Cruz told Josina Anderson of ESPN that he will sign his tender as a restricted free agent today, three days before the club could have reduced that offer by more than $2 million. But Cruz remains hopeful – and the only thing the Giants have said all offseason is that they are optimistic – a long-term dela can be struck.
"I'm going to sign my tender today and will continue talks for a long-term deal before camp,” Cruz said.
The tender will pay him $2.879 million this season and had he not signed it, the club could have reduced the offer to 110 percent of his 2012 salary – or $594,000 – next week.
The thinking is Cruz will not look to be a holdout in training camp if a deal is not done. That would cost him $30,000 per day, a might expensive proposition.
