Vikings could play Adrian Peterson Friday night

Adrian Peterson has been off limits to his Minnesota Vikings teammates since being cleared to return to practice.

But Peterson could test out his surgically repaired left knee for the first time on Friday night when the Vikings play the San Diego Chargers.

Vikings coach Leslie Frazier has not ruled out the possibility of testing out Peterson, who had his ACL reconstructed eight months ago.

We're going to give him a little bit more each day, see how he responds and continue to determine what's the next step," Frazier said, according to Tom Pelissero of ESPN 1500. “Just go day to day. We have some ideas of how we want to approach it, but a lot of it depends on how he feels with some of the things we're going to give him this week.”

It’s a process in bringing Peterson back to action and the Vikings are walking a fine line with such an expedited recovery schedule. They certainly don’t want to rush Peterson back only to lose him again. Typically, a back of his caliber would not get many carries in the regular season with the goal being to make sure he gets through healthy.

“To be honest with you, it really wouldn't matter either way," Peterson said. "I feel like I'll be ready to roll."
