Vikings cut pay for Kevin Williams
The Minnesota Vikings released cornerback Antoine Winfield because he was earning $7.25 million but Kevin Williams, originally scheduled to make $7 million, has been spared a similar fate.
The club has renegotiated the veteran defensive tackle’s contract, according to Tom Pelissero of 1500 ESPN. The new deal saves the team $2.5 million against the salary cap as Williams’ base salary of $7 million was reduced to $4.9 million, per the report. A weight clause worth $400,000 was also dropped.
In the new deal, the 32-year-old Williams will become a free agent after this season. He was originally signed through 2014.
