Vikings RB coach Eric Bieniemy leaving for Colorado

Eric Bieniemy is leaving the Minnesota Vikings to become the offensive coordinator at the University of Colorado.

The running backs coach for the Vikings, who also holds the title of assistant head coach, is rejoining the college program he starred in, and he will serve under new head coach Jon Embree. Bieniemy will finish out the season with the Vikings, according to Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Bieniemy had interviewed for the head-coaching position.

The Vikings gave Bieniemy the additional title a year ago when Lane Kiffin tried to lure him to Southern Cal. Bieniemy became the Buffaloes’ all-time leading rusher from 1987-90, and was a main cog on the national championship team. He began his coaching career at Colorado from 2001 to 2002 before going to UCLA and then joining Brad Childress’ first staff in Minnesota.
