Virginia DT Nate Collins gaining interest
After a solid showing at the East-West Shrine Game, Virginia defensive tackle Nate Collins is starting to gain some momentum with the draft less than six weeks away now.
Collins, who the National Football Post’s Wes Bunting listed on all All Combine Snub team, will make a pre-draft visit to the Chicago Bears on April 8. He’ll travel to meet with the Jacksonville Jaguars on April 14 and there is a trip to see the Arizona Cardinals in the mix too, according to a league source.
The pre-draft visits for Collins serve a couple purposes, but primarily the teams are expected to use them to get a full medical evaluation of the first-team All-ACC pick. That’s the most valuable information the teams get at the scouting combine, and teams interested in him will surely want a thorough checkup.
There are some questions if Collins can hold up inside vs. the run, but he’s explosive as a pass rusher and was fifth in the ACC with six sacks last season. His pro day is Thursday in Charlottesville, Va., and by then some more visits could be in the works for him.
The Bears are believed to like Collins after their defensive line coach Eric Washington worked with him for the week at the East-West game.
