Void of the rings: Rex takes jab at Turner
New York Jets coach Rex Ryan said he called San Diego Chargers coach Norv Turner to tell him he didn't mean it the way it came out.
But when speaking of the Chargers on Wednesday, Ryan said he would have had "a couple of rings" had San Diego hired him as head coach back in 2007 when the job went to Turner instead.
"Well, I think I would have had a couple rings," Ryan said in a conference call with the San Diego media. "I'm telling you, those teams were loaded."
Ryan might not have meant it the way it sounded, and when Turner discussed the matter after the Chargers' Wednesday practice, he managed to get a good line back at Ryan.
"I hadn't seen his quote and I was a little bit surprised by the call. And then after I saw the quote, I didn't have a chance to ask him this, but I was wondering if he had those rings with the ones he's guaranteed the last couple of years," Turner said.
