Warren Sapp reaches out to Gerald McCoy after Bucs win

Gerald McCoy is looking to break out in his third season in the NFL.

He’s certainly off to a good start for new coach Greg Schiano. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle had one of three sacks in the 16-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday at Raymond James Stadium. The Bucs limited Carolina to 10 yards rushing, tying a franchise mark.

It prompted former Bucs great Warren Sapp to call McCoy. Sapp wanted to talk about what would have been a second sack for McCoy as he let Panthers quarterback Cam Newton slip out of his grasp.

“Sapp called me (Sunday) night and said, ‘Look, if you've ever got a quarterback in your grasp like that and you let him out, me and you are going to fight,’”McCoy said, according to Ira Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune. “I don't want none of that. It's hard to bring (Newton) down. The dude moves like a receiver. He's going to be good for a long time.”
