Was Mike Cerullo the whistleblower on Saints' bounty program?

He certainly doesn’t have the name recognition of Jeremy Shockey.

It was Shockey, the former New Orleans Saints tight end, that was falsely accused by Warren Sapp to be the snitch on the bounty program that was run for three seasons by ex-Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.

Another name has emerged though – Mike Cerullo.

According to a story by James Varney in the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Cerullo’s name has come up and Alan Donnes, a Louisiana author and filmmaker who wrote a book about the team in 2006, said in a radio interview that Cerullo is the person who approached the NFL about the bounties.

Who is Cerullo?

He is a former defensive quality control coach for the team. Cerullo was let go after the 2009 Super Bowl season. He’s been described as a disgruntled former Saints employee who blamed Williams, coach Sean Payton and assistant head coach Joe Vitt for him failing to land another job in the NFL. Now, Cerullo serves as a program aide at Connecticut.

Cerullo has previously declined comment to the Times-Picayune. Now, his name is going to be out there in a much bigger way. We'll see if more information about Cerullo surfaces.
