With Allen in Oakland, Broncos could pursue Del Rio

With the hiring of Dennis Allen as head coach of the Oakland Raiders expected to become official today, the Denver Broncos are back in the market for another defensive coordinator.

Jeff Legwold of the Denver Post says that former Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio could be a prime candidate to fill the vacancy.

Del Rio was fired by the Jaguars before the 2011 season ended, and has been out of the spotlight since his dismissal. However, he has ties to Broncos coach John Fox, having previously worked with him in Carolina.

If not Del Rio, the top candidate would appear to be Richard Smith, who coached the Broncos linebackers. He has been a defensive coordinator twice before in his career - at Houston and Miami.
