With Mark Ingram sidelined, Chris Ivory gets shot with Saints

Chris Ivory came out of nowhere to lead the New Orleans Saints in rushing a year ago as a rookie.

It took an injury to first-round draft pick Mark Ingram to get Ivory his first shot this season. Ingram will be held out of Sunday’s game at St. Louis with an injured right heel, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. He has not practiced this week.

In his place, Ivory is expected to get a shot. He will be promoted from the physically unable to perform list where he went at the start of the season as he recovered from sports hernia surgery and a broken foot. That means Ivory could get a little bit of work as he shares the load with Pierre Thomas and Darren Sproles.

The Saints made one thing certain this season: They were not going to run out of backs like they did in 2010. We’ll see how Ivory looks in his first opportunity.
