With Tynes questionable, Giants sign a kicker
With Lawrence Tynes questionable for Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions, the New York Giants have signed Shayne Graham as a second kicker for insurance.
Tynes sprained his left ankle, the one he plants with, in practice on Friday. Graham, a 10-year veteran was released in September after losing a kicking battle with Billy Cundiff. He’s made 85.2 percent of the field goals in his career, and spent seven seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Giants have listed Tynes as questionable, but the addition of Graham tells you about all you need to know. Graham made 23 of 28 field goals for the Bengals last season, but struggled in a playoff loss to the New York Jets. His misses were from 35 and 28 yards in a 24-14 loss, and they changed the momentum of the game.
In order to create room for Graham, the Giants placed wide receiver Victor Cruz, the star of preseason, on injured reserve.
